We work and we play. Read about both here.

Ben's Hackathon 2.1 team was small, but mighty.

There are interns among us. You may have worked with them during Hackathon 2.1, or maybe you’re the one who taught them the house rules of ping pong. Maybe you’ve sat next to them while waiting for your morning doubleshot at The Grind. If you haven’t met our summer interns yet, you’re seriously missing out! As you are about to find out, they’re smart, hilarious, full of secret talents, and already doing big things here on Rainbow Boulevard.

Meet Jake Brown.

Jake Brown

Jake is working for the sales team as a business development intern this summer under director of sales, Austin Jones. We met Jake at KU, but he has since transferred to UMKC to study business management. The Leawood, Kansas native is gearing up for graduation next year and aspiring to follow in Dan Miller’s footsteps with an entrepreneurial career of his own in Kansas City.

How Jake found RNL.

Jake found out about Red Nova through the KU internship fair, but he also credits the help of his dad and brother-in-law. (His dad knows Dan, and his brother-in-law Rich Cray was one of the first employees at Red Nova Labs.) After a phone interview with Austin and a few days shadowing in the sales pit, Jake had landed a summer internship.

Name three things you can't live without.

My phone, Nebraska Huskers Football and my dogs.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

My future aspiration is to one day own and manage a large company in KC. I think that would be my ultimate accomplishment; to be the head guy in charge.

Jake hanging out with friends.

Tell us something we wouldn’t know by looking at you.

I have really bad/weird OCD.

What is your biggest fear?

Heights.

What is your goal for this summer?

My overall goal is pretty simple: to help the sales team (and the company as a whole) make more money. I also want to get and retain as many leads as I can, and master my over-the-phone sales pitch by the end of the summer.

Meet Ben Davidson.

Ben Davidson

Ben is working for the engineering team as a software engineering intern this summer under the guidance of senior software engineer, Tim Banks. Ben is studying computer science with a minor in business at KU, and plans to graduate in May 2017. Even though he spent his younger years in North Carolina, Ben calls McPherson, Kansas home and enjoys cheering for the Royals. He’s also into woodworking: he’s currently building a desk that he plans to use at school next year.

Ben likes to hang out with friends when he's not studying or building things.

How Ben found RNL.

After working in the software biz in Kansas City last summer (and doing some online research), Ben reached out to us looking for internship opportunities and met the engineering team. He was interested in the modern software we create, and really sold after getting a feel for Red Nova’s cool startup vibe and unique work environment.

What's your secret talent?

I’m the best 3 ball juggler the world has ever seen.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

Working at RNL, of course! But I’m also very interested in cyber security and onboard computer systems for military weapons and defense.

Tell us something we wouldn’t know by looking at you.

I was voted “Class Clown” by my high school graduating class.

Ben likes to make people laugh.

What is your biggest fear?

I think this picture explains it better than words.

What is your goal for this summer?

I want to learn as much as possible, get exposed to different technologies, meet as many RNL employees as I can, and hopefully make a lot of new friends!

Meet Hung Nguyen.

Hung Nguyen

Hung is working for the engineering team as a software engineering intern this summer under the guidance of director of engineering, Adam England. Originally from Hanoi, Vietnam, he is currently studying computer science at KU. When he’s not studying, he enjoys playing video games and reading manga. Hung also shares the entrepreneurial spirit and hopes to start his own tech company someday.

Hung rocked Hackathon 2.1 with his group.

How Hung found RNL.

After discovering Red Nova at the KU career fair and having a few conversations with Adam, Hung was excited to join our team of interns and start his career as a software engineer. It was an easy choice for him after meeting the awesome personalities on the engineering team and hearing rumors of unlimited Mountain Dew and snacks.

Name three things you can’t live without.

Laptop, notebook and soda.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I want to be a good software engineer in the short-term, but ultimately I want to start a tech company with my brother and my friends.

What’s your favorite childhood memory?

My summer vacation in 2004 to Huế, a coastal city in central Vietnam.

Don't let Hung's quiet personality fool you - he's hilarious.

What is the nerdiest thing about you?

Sometimes I stayed at school for a whole day finishing assignments and survived on foods from vending machines.

What is your goal for this summer?

I want to learn and help as much as I can.

Meet Henry Miller.

Henry Miller

As a business development intern, Henry works closely with the sales team under the guidance of director of sales, Austin Jones. Currently a student at Shawnee Mission East High School, Henry is our youngest intern ever - but possibly also the tallest. The Mission Hills, Kansas native and talented baseball player is planning to pursue a career as an entrepreneur by studying business in college.

How Henry found RNL.

A guy named Dan Miller had been interviewing Henry pretty much forever and wouldn’t stop saying great things about the company. After five years, Henry was finally offered an internship. He jumped at the opportunity in an attempt to do something his brothers and sisters had never done before: last longer than a week on the job at Red Nova.

Henry with his brothers and sisters at a Royals game.

Tell us something we wouldn’t know by looking at you.

I DO NOT play basketball.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

If baseball doesn’t work out, I’d like to major in business throughout college and eventually become an entrepreneur like my dad.

What’s your secret talent?

I used to be a decent magician.

What is the best meal you've ever had?

Filet mignon with truffle fries at The Capital Grille.

What is your goal for this summer?

I want to learn the basics of sales and start making cold calls.
