Rick Tinney brought a painting of a nude mermaid to his first meeting with Red Nova Labs—his idea of a self-promo souvenir. That clever gesture will be remembered for years, but it wasn’t the only reason Rick was scooped up before he could reconsider leaving Orange Fly (his own design firm). He’s a real find: a creatively ambidextrous guy who doesn’t need food yet ingests coffee like an IV drip. His talents cross the line from classic painting and construction to progressive commercial design.
For more than 10 years he has been crafting dazzling campaigns for both print and web, not to mention operating his business and teaching college courses. Despite his computer savvy, Rick continues to support his painter’s persona, showing canvases in various Kansas City galleries.
An insightful entrepreneur with a BFA, Rick is Red Nova Labs’ creative director. The tenacious handyman has taught himself a veritable palette of programs, from design to animation to code. He effectively bridges the gap between marketing and development.
