  • Usability Strategy

The Objective

Thanks in large part to the web, the world population has grown increasingly competitive regarding careers. The Project DBH web template sought to stand out from the pack, not by telling prospective employers/clients about capabilities, but by showing them. Via well-organized and informative online pages, interested parties could easily find details of interest without reading through pages and pages of profile. What's more, Project DBH would take the concept a step further by facilitating social communication right on the site.

The Challenge

As a captivating stand-alone alternative to a LinkedIn profile, Project DBH would need to impart equal parts organization, information and personality/brand. Although it would be a comprehensive presentation of a person's accomplishments, information would need to be presented in chunks to avoid overwhelming the reader. A content management system (CMS) would ensure that the client could easily update the CV himself. Easy-to-use blogging tools would enable both the site owner and his visitors to communicate via the site-to convey a sense of industry-expert or personal community, depending on its application.

The Solution

Aligning with Web 2.0 technologies and standards, Project DBH is a well-organized website that clearly delineates multiple subjects into logical categories. It is based on a custom PHP/MySQL engine to track news posts and comments. Analytics tools on the back end enable the site owner to track traffic-especially handy for tracking results of door-knocking efforts.

Results

Project DBH's original test site drew unheard-of traffic for a CV and personal community unrelated to publishing or university-thousands of readers over the course of a year, many of them regulars. The site also fueled dozens of job opportunities, enabling the site owner to be highly selective.
