We work and we play. Read about both here.

A couple of Thursdays ago Red Nova Labs staff, loved ones, and friends participated in our last Kansas City BigBalls Kickball League game of the 2013 season. As the afternoon toil in The Labs wound down, we decided it was time to celebrate Alyssa’s birthday as well our upcoming playoff game.

Employees enjoy a pre-kickball meal.

That evening you could feel the energy around our players, it was electric, and nothing was going to stand in the way of our inevitable victory. What our opponents didn’t realize, what they couldn’t in fact have known, is that we had a secret weapon with us that night: the RNL Babies.

Owner, Dan Miller, even met at the field to cheer the team on.

We came ready to play, and the stands were packed with supporters ready to cheer us on to a win and our playoff advancement.

We played as hard as we had all season, our nearly flawless performance no doubt envied by the other teams at the park; but it’s not all about the game with us, it’s about working as a team, letting go, and most importantly bonding outside of work.

Sure, maybe we were playing in the ‘loser’s bracket’ of the playoffs, and in the end our all-star caliber play resulted in a narrow loss for the “Storage Brew-nits,” but we had fun and played as a team; as corny as that sounds, it really is the ultimate goal. It wasn’t our first loss, and I’m sure it wont be our last, but I’m also certain that we will continue to work together and be all the better for it.

We won three games, maybe we’ll find more success in our next sport, or next season, but that’s not why we play; it doesn’t matter what you do when you’re part of Red Nova Labs, we’re a team. We work hard and play hard, and that’s not going to change.
